an open letter to . . .
. . . Camy Tang.

Camy, what can I say, girl?  You are awesome.  Look
in Webster's for the word awesome and there is your
smiling mug shot.  Kinda like this one.  ←  Only in
black and white.  ; )

Cooler than cool, hipper than hip.  You are simply da
coolest and hippest dudette I know.  I shouldn't give
away this secret, but that's why I love hanging out with
you.  When I'm around you, I feel a wee bit more
hipper myself.  It's like it rubs off on me.  I walk a bit
straighter.  Feel a bit . . . cooler.
Yep, our writing journeys are sort of heading in opposite directions at the moment.  Part
of the joy in savoring my own journey has been watching yours take off.  I'm so jazzed
for you, sometimes when I think of you I just start giggling for no reason.  When I think
of Lex squeezed inside that Chinese restaurant with all her sweating chowing-down
relatives, I know it's true.  There is a real Lex Sakai out there who lived this exact
moment, who is now living happily ever after, but who was cool enough and nice
enough to share her story with us all . . .

In other words, Lex is alive.  I love that.

Alive.  That's another word where your picture shows up in Webster's.  I love how you
live.  Full and alive.

Not all people live fully alive.  My friend Shannon lives that way.  You live that way.
Wish I did.  Sometimes I do.  But not near often enough.
Camy-girl, I pray your stories will continue to flow at a workable pace, that nothing
(including impending deadlines) will become overwhelming or distracting or
problematic on your journey.  Just one day at a time, one prayer upon the other, one
more step on the path He's laid out for you.  Following Him . . . ahh, I know you'll be all
right.  You'll follow Him, cuz you know that's right where you need to be.  You'll be His
always, cuz there's no other way to live.  You know that.  Another reason why I love ya.

So, as Trish is now poised to share her story with the world, and then Venus, and then
Jennifer, and then . . . well, only you and they know . . . carry on, m'dear.  Be as loud
and as goofy and as smiley as you can be.  Enjoy every single heartbeat.  Breathe deep
of not only the fun stuff, but of the deeper stuff too.  Your work is touching lives for
Jesus Christ.  You are helping to further His Kingdom.  No matter what happens here on
earth, when we get to Heaven . . . well, I have this feeling I may have to wait a few
years for your crowd of grateful brothers and sisters to clear before I can break through
to say hey.  Or . . . maybe I'll just stake out a place at the front of the line.

Thank you for being His.  Thank you for being a sweet sister.  Thank you for that very
first, heartfelt, wide and brilliant smile that totally captured me.  You remember it—
Mount Hermon, April 6th, 2004.  I'll positively never forget it.

2008 may just be your absolute best year ever!  I hope so.  : )

Love ya, lady!!
Vaya-ing con Dios right along with you,
donna

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW!!!!! I'm crying!
You're so sweet! You are just so awesome! I can't imagine how I could have blessed
your life more than you've blessed mine from the moment we met at dinner that night!

My whole shtick this year about protecting my creativity and tranquility corners and
everything is all because of the joy and tranquility I always see in you. Yes, you! Our
trip down the Oregon coast was SO FUN and so relaxing and made me realize I need to
capture that feeling even when I'm writing every day.

So let's consider it mutual! I'm so glad we're friends!
Camy—very weepy right now

I love thinking about all that lies ahead
for you on your writing journey.
Specifically, I pray that Zondervan will
take good care of you, though I already
know they are.  Sic that awesome agent
of yours (Judy calls her beloved) on
them if they start acting up.  (Wendy, you
are beloved, you sweetheart, you.  I
know you'll not only keep your awesome
authors in line, but those sometimes
not-so-awesome publishers too.)

Well, enough said on that subject.  ; )
