Some of the pictures that go along with my entire adventure.
A scrapbook of sorts.

My Brudda Chris and Me

This was taken just before we left
to go northern spotted owl hunting.
He brought his camera and I brought
the mice. Not a rifle between us.
(That's a joke!!) : )
All Official

Blazing orange safety vest,
government truck, caller horn.
Yep, I'm officially off to hunt and
feed some northern spotted owls.
Not Interested. Nope, couldn't care less.
Interested. Yep. He's locked on to that mouse in my hand.
Feeding a Northern Spotted Owl

Yes, this was legal, and I was authorized to do this. I carried
three little white "lab" rats out to the site and followed
procedure to the letter. (Notice the heavy leather gloves.)
Chris and I both about had bodily-function-accidents when that
owl first swooped my way.

We were allowed to feed the owls up to three mice—hoping
they would eat one or two, then at least take the third back to
their babies so we could follow them and see where they built
their nest. We were after that nest tree, to see if it stood
anywhere close to a timber sale. And for other reasons, too.
And did that owl take any of the three mice back to his babies to share? Nope.
My YCC Trail Crew

After spotted owl tracking, I switched to
lead a Youth Conservation Corps Trail
Crew for two summers. It was the incredible
experience that inspired my first (and as yet
unpublished and probably will never be
published) novel. It was (and I guess still is)
called
Trapped On Deception.

P.S. I love you guys and had a great time
tramping trails with ya!
My Dream Jeep

This shot is here, but I couldn't resist
putting it in here, too. Wouldn't it be fun
to take that thing out to do some serious
four-wheeling? This pix was taken in
Florida when my Guard unit went down
there for training. I still can't believe it
was colder in Florida when we got
there than in Alaska when we left.
The Gators

This shot captures one of the best moments of
my life. I'm surrounded by all my best friends,
and we just won the State Championship. We
were awesome. I love you guys!!!
Swing Batter!

I played volleyball,
basketball, and track in high
school, and softball in the
summer. What a blast.
Even when it rained.
Puppy Love

Like minds think alike, I think.
This was Cassie. What a cutie!
(Of course, Mario, not near as
cute as you.)
First Wheels

Later I drove a cool truck, but
this . . . now this was my first
real set of wheels. A converted
lawnmower. What a cruiser!
Pretty Nails

Yes, I played football, but here's proof I did
once enjoy more feminine qualities as well.
Home Sweet Home

This is the Pace Arrow motorhome we loaded up and pointed
west toward Oregon. We also pulled our car behind—all our
worldly possessions. We ended up in Florence, Oregon. I
never regretted it. Well, after the first year, anyway.
Not one of my shining moments. That's my cousin,
Adam. Thanks, Adam!!

In my pre-Sunshine-Family Days, I played with
real dolls. (In my pre-football days, too.)
Dad and Me

This is my dad, my long hair, my Pippy
Longstocking curtains, my new desk I got for
my birthday, and my Liberty Bell AM radio.
(It actually rang!) I put a lot of miles on that
desk. Lotsa homework
I loved all kinds of animals when I was a kid. Especially that horse. And especially that puppy.
I have always loved puppies. No, it goes much deeper than that. I think puppies are God's
supreme created critter. If they only didn't have to grow up. (And have such sharp teeth!)
Cowboys

The classic shot of all time.
This Is the One

The one pix in my entire collection that gets
me every single time. You can read the
caption for yourself—my mom wrote that.
(I'm crying!!) : )
Wow

I still can't believe how the
Lord turned
that . . . into this.
Wow Again

And this . . . this is icing on the cake!
Thank you, Mr. Talbott and everyone
at Mount Hermon and everyone at
Alive Communications and everyone
on the committee (especially you,
Steve) and . . . thank You, Lord!!!

(Yup, in 2005, I was chosen Writer of
the Year at the Mount Hermon
Christian Writers' Conference.
Ahhh . . . those were the days.)
